Follow Your Passion

Ephemera Comments Off

Apologies for the lack of posting anything new for the past little while. Christmas was very difficult for me and I really just wanted to get through it and get on to 2010. Though the last half of 2009 was without question the most difficult period of my life, it allowed me the chance to do a great deal of introspection about what matters in my life and what I choose to do, as well as who I choose to be, for the remainder of my time here. Just for the record, I would not have gotten though any of this without my friends, both new and old. You know who you are and you know how humbled and thankful I am to have you in my life.
So what’s next? Well, the name of the game is passion. Finding it. Following it. As many of you know, Frank, Niiki and I built a little photo community called Faded & Blurred. For the last few months, we’ve been working hard on creating the next evolution of the site. We are pretty happy with the results. Since launching F&B 2.0 on December 23rd, we have seen over 25,000 page views by more than 11,000 unique visitors. Return visitors have more than doubled and as of this post, we have 115 new registered members. When you add to that the more than 60 of you who have decided to join us on F&B365 it all adds up to awesome…and we’re just getting started. We’ve got some fantastic things in the works for 2010. Beyond F&B, I’ve got a bunch of new art that is in process and will see the light of day soon.
My Mom always told me to live with passion and nothing has punctuated the importance of that more than losing her. None of us knows how long we have. All we can do is find the passion in our own lives and earn it, which is exactly what I intend to do. What’s your passion?

It’s The Moments That Matter

Its The Moments That Matter ephemera
This is the first Christmas I will not get to spend with my Mom and I find myself feeling like I want to implode. Christmas was her favorite time of year. Starting right after Thanksgiving, she would adorn her house with boxes and boxes of decorations, lights and holiday finery. She bought gifts for families who needed a little help, planned and created decorations for her church Christmas party, and always made dinner for us on Christmas Eve. Now that it’s here I feel lost, out of step with the world around me. I would give anything for one more Christmas dinner listening to her favorite Johnny Mathis Christmas record and hearing her laugh as we opened our traditional “white elephant” gifts before dinner. Just a few more moments. The moments are all that we have. The space between them is just filler. The moments and the feelings are what you take with you and they are what’s left behind. So I urge you to create more moments in your lives. Tell the people around you how much you love them and how much they enrich your experience. Tell your parents. Tell your spouse. Your boyfriend, girlfriend, best friend or old friend. Tell them. Merry Chirstmas.

San Francisco Road Trip

I know I haven’t posted in a while. I’ve been working on some new media projects, not the least of which is the redesign of the upcoming and much anticipated Faded & Blurred 2.0. It’s a pretty large project, my first using the Joomla CMS. So the last couple of months, much of my free time has been buried in learning how to work within the Joomla framework. We’re launching the site very soon, so please give me your feedback, when you’ve had a chance to check it out.
I did take some time out over Thanksgiving to get out of town and take some pictures. Nikki and I went up to San Francisco for a couple of days and photo walked the City. San Francisco is one of my favorite cities in the world, and it’s one that I would love to spend a great deal more time exploring. All in all, we shot somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500 photographs during our visit, some of which I present below.

Just Another Day

Frank, Joe McNally & Me

Yep, it was just another day…excpet that’s Frank and I with Joe McNally. We got to meet the Man himself at his lighting workshop in downtown L.A. As if that wasn’t cool enough, Frank got yanked up on stage and got himself photographed by Mr. McNally. You can read more about the day, which just happened to be Frank’s 40th birthday, on his blog.

As if the whole McNally thing wasn’t cool enough (or the French Dips and beer at Philippe’s afterwords) we wrapped up the night at the loft of Maria Carmel where we went up to the roof to shoot a few photos of the Los Angeles skyline. Yeah, it was a good day.
