Seasons End - 2008 Mixed media on panel

Here’s a full shot of Seasons End.  As with most of my work, there’s a definite narrative I had in my mind when creating this piece, but I hope that the viewer sees their own unique back story in it.  My goal is to use powerful imagery to create work that resonates on a personal level with the viewer giving him or her some emotional connection to the characters.

New Piece Teaser news

Okay…first off, apologies for the quality of the image, but I am excited to be finishing this one and wanted to post a little blurb about it. I am between digital cameras at the moment (I’ve pre-ordered the new Canon Powershot G10, but it doesn’t come out until the first week of October), so I had to do this with my scanner. I’ll post a better image of the final later in the week. There’s a lot of surface texture and little lost and found bits of collage elements peeking through. I must tell you, this one has been a bit of a challenge. The piece is 18 X 18, which means my Stylus Pro 3800 won’t print the whole thing in one pass. So, I’ve had to do the gel elements in pieces and up to now that’s not been an issue. But for whatever reason, I ended up screwing up three times. Twice the gel folded over onto itself when I was preparing to lay it down. When that happens, it’s game over. Any little bit of pulling on the gel in an attempt to separate it will: a.) distort the gel b.) rip the gel c.) both a and b. Best to just yell, scream, curse, or whatever and start again. The third time (which may have really been the first time), I was taping one of the edges and the corner of the gel flopped over onto the tape. Again, game over. But all is well as I enter the home stretch…which is nice since the companion piece to it is even larger. Hopefully by the time I finish it, I will have settled on a title. Fourth Time’s A Charm just doesn’t feel quite right.

I Know Kung Fu

Okay, not really.  But, I do love Kung Fu movies.  To me, a well choreographed fight scene is every bit as graceful as ballet.  Pro photog and Nikon evangelist Chase Jarvis teamed up with Seattle based motion house Superfad to shoot some promos for the Kung Fu HD Network (who knew?).  The resulting collaboration is seriously badass…super slow mo video captured on Phantom HD cameras, while the stills were shot with a Hasselblad H2D.  I’ve watched this about fifteen times…

Oh, and you can grab the song HERE

Got an iPhone? Form a Band

Japanese techno-pop group Denki Groove have released a video for their new single “Smokey Bubbles”. The track was created entirely using jailbroken iPhones and iPods running various virtual instruments and synths.  Now, I’m not about to void the warranty (not to mention risk incurring the wrath of The Steve) on my shiny new 32GB iPod Touch to make my own beats, but I’m glad somebody is…
